Body adiposity estimated with CUN-BAE predicts atrial fibrillation: the SUN cohort

چکیده
Abstract Background Obesity is widely recognised as a strong risk factor for atrial fibrillation and recent interest has focused on epicardial fat. Although body mass index commonly used in the clinical practice, it doesn't precisely estimate adiposity. The Clínica Universidad de Navarra-Body Adiposity Estimator (CUN-BAE) an equation developed fat calculation, that been previously associated with cardiometabolic disease. Our objective was to assess association between fat, captured by CUN-BAE index, incidence of prospective cohort. Methods SUN project dynamic, cohort Spanish university graduates. A total 20.136 participants, free at baseline, were followed-up median time 12 years, retention proportion 91%. calculated each participant taking into account only sex, age index. Incident cases confirmed cardiologist according prespecified protocol. Multivariable Cox regression models hazard ratios (HR) Results During follow-up, we identified 128 incident fibrillation. There direct higher baseline during follow-up. In comparison participants lower category (median 21.3%), those 34.8%) exhibited significant 118% relative (adjusted HR=2.18; 95% CI: 1.22, 3.90). For 2-unit increase significantly increased 10%. remained adiposity even after further adjustment obesity (body ≥30 kg/m2) repeated measures analysis every other year. Comparison of body mass index (BMI) with the CUN-BAE body adiposity estimator in the prediction of hypertension and type 2 diabetes
BACKGROUND Obesity is a world-wide epidemic whose prevalence is underestimated by BMI measurements, but CUN-BAE (Clínica Universidad de Navarra - Body Adiposity Estimator) estimates the percentage of body fat (BF) while incorporating information on sex and age, thus giving a better match. Our aim is to compare the BMI and CUN-BAE in determining the population attributable fraction (AFp) for obe...
متن کاملA Comparison between Multiple Regression Models and CUN-BAE Equation to Predict Body Fat in Adults
BACKGROUND Because the accurate measure of body fat (BF) is difficult, several prediction equations have been proposed. The aim of this study was to compare different multiple regression models to predict BF, including the recently reported CUN-BAE equation. METHODS Multi regression models using body mass index (BMI) and body adiposity index (BAI) as predictors of BF will be compared. These m...
متن کاملLeft atrial epicardial adiposity and atrial fibrillation.
BACKGROUND Atrial fibrillation (AF) has been linked to inflammatory factors and obesity. Epicardial fat is a source of several inflammatory mediators related to the development of coronary artery disease. We hypothesized that periatrial fat may have a similar role in the development of AF. METHODS AND RESULTS Left atrium (LA) epicardial fat pad thickness was measured in consecutive cardiac CT...
متن کاملAssociations of Epicardial, Abdominal, and Overall Adiposity With Atrial Fibrillation.
BACKGROUND Although adiposity is increasingly recognized as a risk factor for atrial fibrillation (AF), the importance of epicardial fat compared with other adipose tissue depots remains uncertain. We sought to characterize and compare the associations of AF with epicardial fat and measures of abdominal and overall adiposity. METHODS AND RESULTS We conducted a meta-analysis of 63 observationa...
